US envoy Witkoff to meet Putin as Trump pushes Ukraine toward settlement
US envoy Steve Witkoff will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday after "constructive" talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Oslo, as President Donald Trump pressed Ukraine to settle the war. A US official said Ukraine presented new ideas in Oslo, with participants making "meaningful progress" toward a coordinated approach, covering security guarantees, a post-war economic plan, and European security architecture. Witkoff aims to create a pathway toward trilateral and multilateral negotiations. Zelenskiy said Ukraine is again receiving early warnings of Russian missile attacks and discussed Patriot interceptors and Starlink access. Trump suggested Russia holds the upper hand, while Washington denied deliberately hindering Ukraine's war effort. Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy facilities overnight.
