Putin agrees to resume trilateral talks with Kyiv and Washington on Ukraine war
Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed Wednesday to resume trilateral negotiations with Washington and Kyiv on ending the war in Ukraine, a Kremlin official said. The talks will focus on building a post-war security system for both countries. Putin's foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov said the Russian leader agreed in principle to resume talks after Nov. 10, following a meeting in St. Petersburg with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy insists only a leaders' summit can break the impasse, as both armies continue daily long-range strikes. Three rounds of trilateral talks earlier this year yielded little progress beyond prisoner exchanges. Witkoff said there is "some degree of momentum" in peace efforts, while Russia released a retired American teacher as a goodwill gesture.
