Trump envoy Witkoff meets Putin in St. Petersburg

obozrevatel.com (Ukrainian) —

Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's special envoy, arrived in St. Petersburg on October 21 for talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on settling the Russia-Ukraine war. Witkoff, a 67-year-old billionaire lawyer and real estate developer, first met Trump in 1986 while working at a law firm. Their friendship began when Witkoff bought Trump a sandwich, a gesture Trump remembered years later. Witkoff previously helped broker the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and hostage exchange in January 2025. He has effectively taken over State Department duties in US-Russia and US-Iran relations, and made his first Moscow visit in February this year.
