US envoy meets Putin as Russian strikes kill seven across Ukraine
At least seven people were killed in Ukraine following overnight Russian and Ukrainian strikes, hours after US envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin in Russia. The attacks continued despite President Trump claiming the sides are closer than ever to ending the war. Ukrainian officials reported deaths in Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions, while at least 15 were wounded in Kyiv. Russia said its air defenses destroyed 808 Ukrainian drones over twenty regions, with Moscow's mayor reporting two injuries from 630 drones launched toward the capital. Witkoff had met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo before traveling to Russia. The Kremlin said it was open in principle to resuming trilateral negotiations, while Zelensky has called for a ceasefire on current front lines as a first step toward talks.
