Putin agrees to resume trilateral talks with Kyiv and Washington
President Vladimir Putin has agreed in principle to resume trilateral negotiations with Washington and Kyiv on ending the war in Ukraine, a Kremlin official said Wednesday. The talks would restart after Nov. 10, following a meeting between Putin and President Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg. The trilateral talks will focus on building a security system for Russia and Ukraine after the conflict ends, according to Putin's foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov. The meeting lasted about three hours and came a day after Witkoff met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo, as Trump pushes Kyiv to make a deal. Three rounds of trilateral negotiations earlier this year yielded little progress beyond prisoner exchanges. Zelensky has insisted only a summit of leaders can break the impasse, while Russia released a retired American teacher as a goodwill gesture. Witkoff planned to return to Oslo for more consultations.
