Musk personally ordered Starlink slowdown in Ukraine, WSJ reports
Elon Musk personally ordered the slowdown of the military Starlink satellite service in Ukraine, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing US officials. The decision caused panic in Kyiv and confusion within the Trump administration. The slowdown, implemented last week, reduced connection speeds for Ukrainian devices, rendering some attack and interceptor drones practically unusable. Musk and Trump have recently expressed anger over Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries, which Trump blames for high energy prices. Trump has denied responsibility, while conflicting reports attribute the decision to either the White House or Trump acting on Musk's suggestion. The Ukrainian military uses the Starshield system, purchased by the Pentagon in 2023, which shares technology with commercial Starlink.
