Putin and Trump envoy Witkoff discuss new Ukraine peace proposals in St. Petersburg
US envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg for about three hours to discuss new proposals for resolving the Ukraine war, with no results announced. Witkoff delivered documents with fresh peace proposals following his talks in Oslo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European officials. He expressed hope for resuming trilateral talks between Russians and Ukrainians under US mediation, citing momentum for ending the conflict. Putin thanked US President Donald Trump for his efforts to end the war. Witkoff is expected to return to Oslo to report Putin's response, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin would review the proposals. Ukraine has been defending against Russia's invasion for over four and a half years.
