Trump urges Zelensky to accept peace deal as Russia gains ground
US President Donald Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should want to end the war with Russia, citing Ukraine's disadvantage on the battlefield and urging a peace agreement now. Trump told reporters at the White House on October 20 that Russia's territorial gains are growing weekly, adding that Russia is a vast country while Ukraine is not. He also claimed the US has provided $350 billion to Ukraine, which taxpayers are tired of. The remarks come as Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping next month to discuss ending the war, a move seen as excluding Ukraine. Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff met Zelensky in Oslo on October 20 and plans to travel to Russia on October 21.
