Witkoff to travel to Russia after Oslo talks
US and Ukrainian officials met in Oslo Tuesday night, where Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed that US special envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to St. Petersburg, Russia, on Wednesday to meet Russian leadership and exchange ideas from the talks. The Oslo meeting brought together Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, Witkoff, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and Støre to discuss Ukraine's security, post-war economic development, territorial issues, sanctions, and the European security order. Støre described the talks as "good and constructive," saying they took "important steps forward," while Stubb noted "real progress" on both long-term peace elements and short-term issues like air defense, energy facilities, and partial ceasefires. Zelenskyj said Ukraine wants peace more than anyone, emphasizing that Russia started the war and alone chooses to continue it. Earlier Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Zelenskyj in a phone call that President Donald Trump has ordered no changes to intelligence sharing, weapons sales, or Starlink restrictions, attributing recent gaps in missile warnings to technical errors rather than policy.
