Witkoff carries trilateral summit proposal to Putin after Zelensky talks
US envoy Steve Witkoff will propose direct trilateral talks between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Vladimir Putin during his visit to Russia on October 21, following his meeting with the Ukrainian president in Oslo. The proposal, announced after Zelensky and Witkoff's talks in Norway, aims to negotiate a ceasefire. If held, it would mark the first summit of this level since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed Witkoff will travel to St. Petersburg to discuss peace terms with Russian leadership. Zelensky said he expects a response from Moscow within a day regarding the security guarantees document Witkoff is delivering.
