Zelenskyy proposes new peace terms as Witkoff heads to Moscow
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented new proposals to end the war during talks in Oslo with US envoy Steve Witkoff, who will now meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday to pave the way for direct trilateral negotiations between Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington. US President Donald Trump increased pressure on Zelenskyy to reach a deal with Russia, stating "we want Zelenskyy to make a deal" and warning of a "very bad" outcome otherwise. Zelenskyy demanded "Article 5-like" NATO security guarantees and insisted Ukraine must participate in any negotiations about its future. Zelenskyy also requested Ukraine's inclusion in a potential summit involving Trump, Putin, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which Putin reportedly seeks on the sidelines of the APEC summit in November. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha warned such a trilateral meeting would only encourage Putin to continue the war.
