Putin Agrees in Principle to Resume Ukraine Peace Talks Next Month

kurier.at (German) —

Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed in principle to resume Ukraine peace talks with the US and Ukraine next month, according to Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov following Putin's meeting with US envoy Steve Witkoff. The talks would focus on security guarantees for both countries. The meeting in St. Petersburg lasted about three hours. Ushakov suggested talks could occur after November 10, possibly in Abu Dhabi. Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger urged European participation in negotiations, calling for increased sanctions pressure on Russia and opposing a "dictated peace." Putin also announced the release of US citizen Stephen Hubbard, a 75-year-old convicted of fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine. Russia announced its first diesel shipment to the US for Thursday, following a controversial sanctions waiver deal. Meanwhile, Russian attacks killed at least four people in Ukraine.
