Moscow evacuates skyscraper as drone attacks shut down airports
All Moscow airports were shut down Friday due to heavy drone attacks, prompting panic in the city center, where a skyscraper in the Moscow City business district was evacuated and Kremlin air defenses were reinforced. Residents reported loud explosions and sirens throughout the day, with reports indicating 155 drones targeted the capital and region, most intercepted. Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed eleven drones were shot down over Moscow, while witnesses described the evacuation of a high-rise in Moscow City. Military analyst Jan Matwejew suggested Russian air defenses are struggling against all incoming drones. All four Moscow airports halted operations, with Sheremetyevo triggering an air alarm, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously warned the Russian sky would become unsafe.
