Ukraine and Russia agree to ceasefire in Oleshky, peace talks set for next month
Ukraine and Russia agreed Friday to a ceasefire in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky, brokered through US first lady Melania Trump, with peace negotiators set to meet next month for new talks. The ceasefire takes effect October 27, allowing humanitarian aid delivery and civilian evacuations via safe corridors. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said technical-level meetings involving Ukraine, Russia, and the US are planned for early November in Abu Dhabi. The agreement follows US pressure for new talks amid tensions between Washington and Kyiv, including restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink system. Oleshky, with 1,700 to 2,000 residents remaining, faces a deepening food crisis, and both sides also exchanged 270 prisoners each on Friday.
