Zelensky sets conditions for a just peace in Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Friday, October 23, that Ukraine is ready to move toward real diplomacy after a ceasefire, which he called the first step toward negotiations with Russia. Zelensky said a ceasefire must precede substantive work on a peace plan, with working groups then able to develop it. He mentioned a possible meeting of Ukrainian and American teams in Abu Dhabi in early or mid-November, and potential trilateral talks at the leaders' level. For a just and lasting peace, Zelensky emphasized the need for a strong Ukrainian army requiring partner financial support for at least ten years, enhanced air defense systems, and clear security guarantees. He noted the absence of a clear response mechanism to potential renewed Russian aggression, and also mentioned Ukraine's reconstruction, attracting American and European business, and EU accession as key conditions.
