Kremlin confirms Oleshky ceasefire, coordinates evacuation with Ukraine
The Kremlin confirmed Friday a US-brokered local ceasefire for the Russian-controlled town of Oleshky, with Russian and Ukrainian militaries coordinating evacuation timing. The White House said the ceasefire begins October 29. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated all civilians wishing to leave Oleshky will be allowed to do so, with the evacuation expected to take several days. He praised US first lady Melania Trump for securing the agreement, which was discussed in a recent Putin-Trump phone call. Peskov welcomed Melania Trump's "significant contribution" to coordinating the humanitarian operation. The agreement marks a rare instance of direct US-brokered cooperation between the warring parties.
