Ukraine partners with Nokia and Iceye to build own satellite network after Starlink dispute
Ukraine has denied reports that Starlink restrictions were lifted, saying the speed limit for military use remains in place. The country is now partnering with Nokia and Iceye to develop its own satellite communication system. A Ukrainian government official told the Kyiv Independent that the 161-kilometer-per-hour speed limit still applies, calling contrary claims "all false." The restriction, in effect since October 14, hampers Ukraine's use of fast interceptor drones against Russian attacks. The defense ministry signed a letter of intent with Finnish firm Iceye and Nokia to build a secure network with Ukrainian control over satellites, ground stations, and terminals. The new system aims to ensure connectivity even if ground networks fail due to Russian strikes. Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed readiness to resume three-way talks with US and Ukrainian representatives after meeting US envoy Steve Witkoff, though he offered no new peace proposals.
