Russia-Ukraine Signal Talks While Exchanging Strikes
Diplomatic contacts around the Russia-Ukraine conflict have intensified, with both sides signaling openness to talks while continuing mutual attacks. A US envoy met with leaders of both countries, and Kyiv expressed willingness to discuss a ceasefire based on "freezing" the current front lines. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv is ready to discuss security guarantees and a ceasefire, calling a truce its maximum concession. Russia stated it is prepared to resume trilateral talks in mid-November, with Abu Dhabi a possible venue, while demanding Ukrainian withdrawal from several eastern cities. Despite the diplomatic signals, both sides continued strikes. Ukraine reported over 170 attacks on its energy infrastructure since the US announced an "energy ceasefire," while Russia said its air defenses downed 808 Ukrainian drones overnight. The two countries also exchanged fallen soldiers' remains in Belarus.
