Zelenskyy Accuses Russia of Using Cluster Munitions in Kyiv Attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accuses Russia of using cluster munitions in a missile attack on Kyiv, claiming three ballistic missiles with cluster warheads struck the capital overnight. The attack involved 21 missiles in multiple waves, with several people reported injured. Zelenskyy stated one missile hit the historic Pechersk district, near the Kyiv monastery caves, asserting there were no military targets nearby and the weapon was designed for mass destruction. Cluster munitions, banned in over 100 countries but not Russia, are designed to detonate in the air and spread damage over a 400-meter diameter. The attack coincided with planned trilateral talks between Russia, the US, and Ukraine, while Ukraine launched over 630 drones toward Moscow, mostly intercepted.
