Melania Trump brokers Oleshky ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine
US first lady Melania Trump has brokered a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky, set to begin October 29, the White House announced Friday. The agreement aims to allow humanitarian aid and civilian evacuations. The localized truce will permit non-military teams from both countries to visit residents and coordinate evacuations to either Russia or Ukraine, with an unnamed American media organization documenting the process. Oleshky's remaining population of 1,700 to 2,000 people, mostly elderly, faces a dire food crisis. The ceasefire follows President Donald Trump's pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to end the war, which began with Russia's February 2022 invasion. Melania Trump has also been active in efforts to return Ukrainian children seized by Russia.
