Silicon Valley Democrats demand probe into Starlink restrictions in Ukraine
A group of Silicon Valley House Democrats demanded Friday that the White House investigate recent restrictions of Elon Musk's Starshield internet service in Ukraine, citing serious national security implications. The letter to chief of staff Susie Wiles signals a top priority for Democrats if they win the House. The lawmakers, led by Reps. Sam Liccardo, Ro Khanna and Jimmy Panetta, demanded a "government-wide investigation" into who ordered the throttling, which disrupted Ukrainian military drones and operations. They questioned whether the direction came from President Donald Trump or Musk, a private citizen, and noted Ukrainian officials say restrictions remain despite Trump's claim they were lifted. The letter warns that politically motivated service interruptions undermine American technology credibility abroad. It also indicates Democrats will scrutinize federal funding awarded to Musk's businesses if they gain control of Congress, which would grant them subpoena power at the committee level.
