Ukraine and Russia agree to localized ceasefire in Oleshky starting October 27
The White House announced Friday that Russia and Ukraine will implement a localized ceasefire in the isolated, crisis-hit Ukrainian city of Oleshky, in the southern Kherson region, starting October 27. The agreement was reportedly led by First Lady Melania Trump. Both countries agreed to halt military activity in the area to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the preparation of civilian evacuations. Melania Trump stated that civilian leaders from both sides will visit residents' homes and arrange transportation for those wishing to leave. The move is highly unusual as it would permit Ukrainian officials to enter Russian-occupied territory. Fighting is expected to continue in other areas of the conflict.
