Melania Trump brokers limited Russia-Ukraine ceasefire in Oleshky
The White House claims Melania Trump has brokered a limited ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the occupied city of Oleshky, effective October 29, to allow humanitarian aid and civilian evacuations. The agreement would halt military actions in the city, occupied since March 2022, to enable aid delivery and safe passage for civilians. Melania Trump says she negotiated directly with both sides, with the city's remaining residents, mostly elderly, in critical need of supplies. Norwegian military expert Palle Ydstebø expressed skepticism, saying the ceasefire needs confirmation from both Russia and Ukraine. The city, once home to 24,000 people, now has an estimated 1,700-2,000 residents, and about 90 percent was flooded after the Kakhovka Dam destruction in 2023.
