Ukraine expands satellite cooperation with Finland's ICEYE and Nokia

nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

Ukraine has agreed to expand its use of satellite capabilities from Finnish companies ICEYE and Nokia, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday, October 22, following a meeting in Kyiv with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. During the visit, the sides signed seven documents totaling €300 million, covering a new support package for Ukraine and agreements that expand cooperation opportunities. Finland will also assist Ukraine with logistics and energy, with Zelensky thanking Finland for additional locomotives, energy equipment, and funds to protect the energy system, which he called key targets for Russia. ICEYE produces radar satellites capable of imaging Earth through clouds and at night. Ukraine has used their data since 2022, when access was secured through funds raised by the Serhiy Prytula Foundation. Last week, Russian military satellite Kosmos-2612 approached ICEYE-X36 closely before moving away on October 18.
