Melania Trump claims she secured localized ceasefire in Ukraine's Olechky
US First Lady Melania Trump said Friday she secured a localized ceasefire in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Olechky, which faces a severe humanitarian crisis. The agreement is set to take effect October 29 but has not been confirmed by Kyiv or Moscow. Trump claimed her direct intervention made humanitarian aid delivery possible to the front-line city near the Dnieper River, which lacks food and medicine. The White House said she worked with Russian and Ukrainian leaders to define the ceasefire's terms, though both nations have remained silent on the announcement. Olechky, in the southern Kherson region, was captured by Russian forces in 2022 and heavily damaged by the 2023 Kakhovka dam destruction. Its population has fallen from about 24,000 to roughly 2,000, with both sides blaming each other for blocking aid and evacuations.
