Trump asks Musk to lift Starlink restrictions for Ukraine

novinky.cz (Czech) —

President Donald Trump asked entrepreneur Elon Musk on Thursday to ease restrictions Musk had imposed on Ukraine's use of the Starshield satellite system, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials. The system reportedly functioned more normally shortly after their phone call. The Journal, citing American and Ukrainian sources, reported the Starshield network, which Ukraine relies on for operations including controlling strike drones, had been slowed by Musk. Trump declined to confirm he personally called, saying "whether I called or someone else doesn't matter—he fixed it." The restrictions emerged as Trump pressures Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. Trump has repeatedly denied involvement in the decision to limit the service, stating Wednesday, "I don't know who did it, but I wasn't involved."
