Melania Trump announces Russia-Ukraine ceasefire in Oleshky to allow aid and evacuations
Melania Trump announced a localised ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, scheduled to begin on October 29, to allow humanitarian aid and evacuations of elderly residents. The US First Lady said her intervention was necessary to bring aid and evacuate residents, with civilian leaders from both countries set to assess needs. Moscow and Kyiv have not yet confirmed the announcement, which follows her previously established back channel with Vladimir Putin. Oleshky, captured by Russia in 2022, has seen its population drop from 24,000 to about 2,000, with residents facing food and medication shortages. Melania Trump has previously secured reunifications of 34 children separated by the war.
