Melania Trump brokers Russia-Ukraine ceasefire in Oleshky, Kherson

adevarul.ro (Romanian) —

US First Lady Melania Trump has brokered a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky, the White House announced Friday. The truce takes effect on October 29. The agreement temporarily halts all military actions in Oleshky to allow humanitarian aid and civilian evacuations through a designated safe corridor. Melania Trump worked directly with Moscow and Kiev leaders, describing the frontline city's situation as "grave" and "on the brink of disaster." An estimated 1,700 to 2,000 residents, mostly elderly, and about 50 children remain in the city, which had roughly 24,000 inhabitants before the war. About 90% of the area was flooded after the Kakhovka dam destruction. Civilian teams will conduct door-to-door assessments, monitored by an American media organization.
