Melania Trump Secures Ceasefire in Oleshky, Ukraine, for Humanitarian Aid
First Lady Melania Trump announced Friday she secured a ceasefire in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky, set to begin October 29, to allow humanitarian aid delivery. Trump stated her direct intervention was essential to bring aid to the frontline city near the Dnieper River, which faces growing food and medicine shortages. The White House said she worked with Russian and Ukrainian leaders as an exclusive intermediary, though neither Moscow nor Kiev immediately confirmed the deal. Oleshky, captured by Russia in 2022, has seen its population drop from 24,000 to about 2,000. Both sides blame each other for the humanitarian crisis, and Trump previously claimed a communication channel with Vladimir Putin regarding abducted Ukrainian children.
