Finland to donate 10 unique locomotives to Ukraine
Finland will provide Ukraine with 10 locomotives and spare parts free of charge, as agreed on October 22 during the Ukrainian-Finnish business forum. The Finnish locomotives can operate without contact network power, helping maintain train service amid energy strikes. The agreement was signed at the forum's plenary session attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and Finnish business representatives. Russia has damaged or destroyed nearly 600 Ukrainian locomotives since the full-scale invasion began. Ukraine is building an international coalition to replenish its locomotive fleet, with partners agreeing to transfer used locomotives at the Carpathian Eight summit. Finland also allocated €2 million in humanitarian aid and will expand joint production and technology projects.
