Zelenskyy urges support for new US sanctions on Russia after Trump pauses them
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged supporters Saturday to advocate for new U.S. sanctions against Russia after President Donald Trump signed an executive order pausing the restrictions, raising fears Ukraine could face escalating Russian assaults as winter approaches. Zelenskyy called the pause unfortunate but avoided direct criticism of Trump, noting the sanctions package, known as the Lindsey Graham Act, could still help end the war if revived. He also reported a massive Russian strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, targeting over 15 sites. Russia launched four cruise missiles and 332 attack drones overnight, with Ukraine's air force suppressing or destroying all missiles and 289 drones. The bombardment of the power grid ahead of winter is an annual tactic to deny civilians heat and water, with officials warning of more ballistic missile attacks.
