Trump lifts sanctions on Russia-linked goods
President Donald Trump has lifted certain sanctions targeting Russia-linked goods, according to a White House executive order published Friday. The sanctions, which were set to take effect Sunday, will now not be implemented. The sanctions were designed to hinder Russia's fuel exports and were named after the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. Trump stated the exemption is "currently in the U.S. national interest," while Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren called it a "pathetic failure" that mocks Congress and enables Vladimir Putin's war. The move follows Trump's agreement with Putin for Russia to supply 300,000 tons of diesel to the market. Twenty senators from both parties urged Trump to enforce the law, warning the sanctions are "crucial" to forcing Putin to take peace talks seriously. The measures would have imposed tariffs up to 100 percent on major oil importers and targeted Russia's shadow fleet, banks, and oligarchs.
