Iran offers to reopen Strait of Hormuz in 7 days if US eases blockade

Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States takes initial steps to ease its military pressure, according to a senior Iranian official speaking to Kyodo news agency on Tuesday. The official stated that an agreement is possible if Washington demonstrates "seriousness and commitment," with Tehran prepared to negotiate on war-ending terms. The proposal has been approved by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, expressed openness to meeting Iranian officials at the UN General Assembly this week, though no meeting is scheduled between President Masoud Pezeshkian and President Donald Trump. The conflict began February 28 following US-Israeli attacks on Iran, with a June memorandum granting 60 days for negotiations.
