Trump calls on nations to quit ICC, calls it 'rogue institution'

US President Donald Trump called on all nations to withdraw from the International Criminal Court, labeling it a "rogue institution" that is "out of control" during his Tuesday address to the UN General Assembly in New York. Trump stated Washington will never allow US soldiers or others to be investigated by an "anti-American court" in show trials. The US has imposed sanctions on ICC members, especially since its investigations targeted Israeli officials, and in July urged countries to leave, with Venezuela and Chad following. The ICC, established in 1998, prosecutes genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, with over 120 signatories to the Rome Statute. The US signed but never ratified the treaty, and other non-members include Israel, Russia, and Turkey.
