France and US agree to ease energy tensions and protect Strait of Hormuz
French President Emmanuel Macron announced France and the US agreed to act together to ease energy-market tensions, protect critical infrastructure in West Asia, and ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, following his meeting with President Donald Trump in New York. Macron stated the two countries will also pool efforts to secure a moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure and Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, urging serious negotiations on peace between Russia and Ukraine. His remarks came as he arrived for the 81st UN General Assembly session. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and President Masoud Pezeshkian are also in New York for the UNGA amid regional tensions. The US reportedly denied visas to some Iranian delegation members, while Trump is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday.
