Macron pitches Trump on Hormuz security and Ukraine support

Emmanuel Macron proposed several initiatives to Donald Trump during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, including a UN resolution to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and protect Saudi oil sites, aiming to curb rising oil prices. The French president described the discussion as "very constructive" and mentioned a shared "will to reopen Hormuz," through which 20% of global hydrocarbon trade passes. France also offered to help secure Saudi energy infrastructure against Houthi attacks in a "strictly defensive" approach. Macron also discussed accelerating support for Ukraine with interceptor missiles and possible initiatives for a moratorium on energy issues. The meeting lasted about half an hour, with France seeking to maintain US support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.
