Europe Warns of Rising Russian Sabotage but Rules Out Imminent NATO Attack

European ministers warned that Russia is intensifying sabotage, cyberattacks, and other hybrid operations across Europe to undermine support for Ukraine, while dismissing the likelihood of a direct NATO assault. Officials spoke on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly this week. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Moscow is trying to scare Europe into reducing aid for Kyiv, citing a fast proliferation of sabotage attacks and airspace violations. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski described the activities as actual attacks, including arson, explosions, and drone incursions, while Romania reported over 100 drone-related incursions. Ministers argued Russia lacks the capability for conventional aggression against NATO while engaged in Ukraine. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said Moscow's campaign aims to create fear and divide Western societies, urging unity and continued support for Ukraine ahead of winter.
