Macron calls Trump meeting on Ukraine and Red Sea 'very constructive'

French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday he had a "very constructive" meeting with US President Donald Trump on the Red Sea situation and the war in Ukraine, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Macron also plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the assembly. Macron told journalists they discussed how to "better protect" oil facilities in the Red Sea and "the need to help our Ukrainian friends more quickly and forcefully in terms of interceptor missiles." The meeting lasted about half an hour, with Trump described as "very receptive." The Red Sea has become a key oil transport route due to the Strait of Hormuz blockade, but rebel control of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait has complicated navigation. Macron traveled from Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, where he met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Sunday.
