Iran ready to reopen Strait of Hormuz if US lifts blockade and eases pressure

Iran said it can reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States eases military pressure and lifts its blockade on Iranian ports, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Tuesday. The official said the US must announce it wants to resolve the issue diplomatically and agree on a timeline, adding that Iran's delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York has full authority to revive diplomacy. Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian will not meet US President Donald Trump at the UN. Tehran's proposal was delivered to the US via mediators on September 16, and the official called the UN General Assembly a "golden opportunity" for Washington to return to diplomacy, warning that US military preparations would trigger retaliation "without limitations."
