European ministers warn of rising Russian sabotage but see no imminent NATO attack

European ministers warned that Russia is intensifying sabotage, cyberattacks, and other hybrid attacks across Europe to undermine support for Ukraine, while dismissing the prospect of an imminent direct NATO assault. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Moscow aims to scare Europe into reducing aid to Kyiv, citing a proliferation of sabotage and airspace violations. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski described these as actual attacks, including arson, drone incursions, and a deliberate cruise missile violation, while Romania reported over 100 drone-related incursions. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said Russia lacks the capability for active military aggression against NATO while engaged in Ukraine, arguing the campaign is designed to create fear and divide Western societies. Ministers urged unity, deterrence, and continued support for Kyiv, especially ahead of winter.
