Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi arrives in New York for UN General Assembly talks
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi arrived in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly, where he plans to defend Iran's interests and meet with officials, including Austria's Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger. Araqchi spoke with UN Secretary-General António Guterres upon arrival. President Masoud Pezeshkian, leading the delegation, will address the assembly Wednesday, becoming the highest-ranking Iranian official to visit the US since the Iran war began. The Iran war, which started February 28, remains a key topic. Iran signaled openness to negotiations but demanded the US ease military pressure and lift its naval blockade, offering to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
