Iranian President Pezeshkian arrives at UNGA as Trump threatens military action

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New York for the 81st UN General Assembly session, where he plans to urge diplomacy to ease tensions with the US, following President Donald Trump's warning to "annihilate" Iran if no peace deal is reached. Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the assembly Wednesday, outlining Tehran's grievances, alleged crimes, and distrust in international institutions. He stated Iran will forcefully present its positions, citing unfulfilled commitments from past agreements. Trump, in his address, offered Iran a choice between a deal or military action, while insisting Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. Iranian delegation members staged a walkout during Trump's speech, and Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi emphasized the need to restore trust in the UN. Pezeshkian will also hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and interactions with Iranian expatriates and think tanks during his stay.
