Macron and Trump agree to cooperate on energy and Strait of Hormuz

French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday he agreed with US President Donald Trump to act jointly to reduce energy market tensions, protect critical infrastructure in the Middle East, and ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Macron stated on X that both leaders also decided to work toward a moratorium on attacks against energy and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, emphasizing that civilian populations must be protected and that serious negotiations for peace between Russia and Ukraine should begin as soon as possible. The meeting took place in New York, where both leaders are attending the UN General Assembly's high-level week, with discussions focused on the energy situation and the war in Ukraine.
