EU insists on seat at table for Ukraine peace deal

dw.com (Russian) —

The European Union has stated that a sustainable peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine cannot be implemented without EU participation, with officials in Brussels and Berlin insisting European security issues cannot be decided without Europe. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Friday after a Baltic foreign ministers' meeting in Warsaw that any agreement would require EU involvement to be workable. A European Commission spokesperson added that the EU must make decisions regarding its own security, while noting a quick peace is unlikely as Russia shows no movement. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said negotiations without Europe would not be productive, emphasizing Europe must play a central role. This follows President Donald Trump's announcement of a potential "very large" agreement with Moscow after meeting Kremlin adviser Kirill Dmitriev.
