Trump and Putin Plan New European Security Order Without EU at Table
US, Russian, and Ukrainian representatives will meet in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11 to discuss peace, but European Union officials will only be allowed sidelined exchanges, not a seat at the main negotiating table. The US initiative, outlined in a 423-word document by Trump aides Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, proposes a "new European security architecture" and addresses "competing security concerns" between Europe and Russia. NATO diplomats told Politico they were not informed beforehand, and some fear Moscow will use the talks to legitimize its demands. European foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated in Warsaw that NATO and the EU already provide a security architecture, warning that Putin has no veto over European security. Polish minister Radosław Sikorski added that any agreement made without Europeans would be impossible to implement.
