Ukraine Says Russia Plans Strikes on Energy Grid and Bridges

lapresse.ca (French) —

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday he has intelligence indicating Russia is preparing strikes on energy infrastructure, bridges over the Dnipro River, and civilian facilities, ahead of trilateral talks with the US and Russia next week in Abu Dhabi. Zelensky urged Kyiv's partners to deliver interceptors for Patriot air defense systems, citing recent Russian strikes that caused significant damage to energy infrastructure, particularly in the capital, and raising fears of a difficult winter amid intense bombardment. He also said he discussed long-range Ukrainian strikes and that "Russia will receive our response." EU and NATO officials stressed that much work remains for a "just and lasting" peace, while US negotiator Jared Kushner mentioned a broader "European security architecture," a phrase long used by the Kremlin, though he affirmed NATO would remain central to European collective defense.
