Russia strikes substations linking nuclear plants to Kyiv with 36 missiles
Russia attacked substations connecting Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants to Kyiv and central Ukraine, using 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on November 7. All missiles targeted Kyiv and the region, causing severe energy supply disruptions. The attack damaged substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Dnipro regions, affecting 12 regions total. Nine people were injured, including one child. Residential buildings, the Pivnichnyi Bridge, and a kindergarten were damaged in Kyiv, with electricity, water, and heating supply issues. Zelensky linked the strike to upcoming trilateral negotiations and called for increased US support, urging Congress to prioritize aid to Ukraine and maintain bipartisan unity on sanctions against Russia. Repair and rescue operations are ongoing where security permits.
