Russia and Ukraine trade strikes before Abu Dhabi peace talks
Russia and Ukraine exchanged attacks on Saturday, killing six people near Kyiv and damaging a Russian refinery, days before peace talks are scheduled in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11, mediated by the United States. Ukrainian authorities reported a Russian strike on the Kyiv region involving 36 ballistic missiles and 172 Shahed drones, killing a seven-year-old child and wounding nine others. The attack damaged homes, businesses, the North Bridge, and disrupted power and water supplies. Ukraine struck Russia's Saratov refinery, causing fires at the Rosneft-managed facility, which processes about 140,000 barrels of oil daily and produces fuel for Russian armed forces. The Abu Dhabi meeting will be the fourth US-mediated negotiation attempt, with Russian delegates including military officials and diplomat Sergei Ryabkov. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of escalating attacks to pressure negotiations and criticized Russian involvement in European security decisions, while Jared Kushner is expected to lead the American delegation.
