Kushner's Ukraine security plan draws European skepticism

obozrevatel.com (Russian) —

US President Donald Trump's special envoy Jared Kushner proposed a new European security architecture that includes Ukraine, outlining five key components such as permanent security consultations and crisis communication channels. The initiative has drawn skepticism in European capitals, with officials fearing it could sideline allies and benefit Russia. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that the existing security architecture based on NATO and the EU already provides the foundation, insisting Ukraine must be integrated into it and that Putin has no veto over European security decisions. POLITICO reported that 12 NATO and EU diplomats expressed concerns, noting allies were not warned about Washington's plans. European officials suspect the proposal may conceal different intentions, particularly regarding a possible review of US military presence in Europe scheduled for December. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda emphasized Europe's need to participate in negotiations on both peace in Ukraine and the continent's future security framework.
