Russia Launches 36 Missiles and 172 Drones at Kyiv, Killing Two
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russia launched 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones overnight, primarily targeting Kyiv and its region, causing significant damage due to a shortage of Patriot air defense systems. Emergency power outages were introduced in the Kyiv region following strikes on energy infrastructure. At least two people were killed and 37 injured in the attacks, which damaged electrical substations connected to nuclear power plants, residential buildings, and the Northern Bridge in Kyiv. Zelensky stated that Russia used North Korean-made KN-23 missiles against one energy facility, and Germany's defense minister said Berlin cannot provide additional Patriot systems to Ukraine. Trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the US are scheduled for Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, with Russia's delegation including high-ranking diplomats and military officials. Zelensky expressed expectations for increased support from the new US Congress, while also warning against a "Yalta 2.0" agreement that could divide Europe.
